NCN - The Negativland Remix Marathon

As it was streamed by The National Cynical Network (NCN) on SLACK RADIO o Thursday, January 18, 2024 (with only some post-production work being done on the last 30 min. or so of the program) this is: 'The Negativland Remix Marathon' and is 12 hours long. Our regular program format is: music, comedy, psychedelic collage, found sound, mashups & remixes, metamixes, AI, topical variety media mix by NCN and others. NCN currently streams Thursdays and Sundays, starting on those days at 6pm EASTERN TIME and streams for 12 hours until 6am EASTERN the next day. The stream can be heard on SLACK RADIO at https://slackradio.org/ as well as simulcast at those times on our Shoutcast server at http://34.210.193.35:8000/ . (Listener Discretion Advised). ========== DETAILS: This is a marathon of 12 hours presenting obscure and rare material by the found sound/collage/noise group (or 'band') called Negativland, including live in-concert audio and clips of work that Phineas has done with Negativland band member, the late Don Joyce, as well as various remixes, re-workings and covers of their work done by fans (including NCN) over the years.  It has been put together and inspired by the concurrent theatrical release of the new documentary about Negativland called 'Stand By For Failure'. This NCN program, 'The Negativland Remix Marathon', features some clips from this theatrical documentary release, as well as clips from other documentaries made about Negativland: namely, 'Media About Media About Media: The Negativland Story', 'Sonic Outlaws' (a 1995 documentary feature made by filmmaker Craig Baldwin, to which NCN member Phineas Narco contributed some material). The Marathon also features many clips from past NCN programs about Negativland and/or its members such as the KFJC Special 'Day of Don (Joyce Unto the World)' which was broadcast on that terrestrial radio station shortly after Negativland member Don Joyce's death in the summer of 2015 as well as 'The Art of Breathing' which was the last show of the very long-running radio show which Don Joyce hosted on KPFA that was aired while Don Joyce was still alive (but in hospital at the time). It was mixed live by NCN's Phineas Narco, Jon Leidecker (of Negativland) and Douglas Wellman (aka 'Puzzling Evidence'). In the latter part of the program, there is an interview with the surviving members of the band (post-pandemic). It was conducted by Carl Stone.
